WACO, Texas –
Kharyi McKinney of Texas Wesleyan University and Marlo Saunders of University of Texas of the Permian Basin were named Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for Nov. 21-27, while TWU’s Melissa Myers earned recognition as the RRAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week over the same span.

McKinney, a senior guard from Del Rio, Texas, racked up 21 points and four rebounds in an 82-73 loss to NCAA Division I school, Stephen F. Austin University (Texas). He led a Ram rally that cut a 20-point deficit to two -- 66-64 in the second half -- by chipping in 10 points in a 23-5 run. Although TWU came up short, McKinney made 7-of-12 shots from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the game. The Rams are 2-3 on the season.

Saunders, a senior guard from Killeen, Texas, led UTPB to its first win ever over an NCAA Division I opponent with a 75-69 defeat of Texas State University. After the Falcons trailed 28-26 at halftime, Saunders poured in 15 of his 22 points to lead UTPB’s second half charge. He also scored 15 in a loss to University of Texas-El Paso on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. For the week, Saunders made 11-of-26 field  goals including five three-pointers. UTPB has a record of 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

Myers, a freshman guard from San Antonio, scored a career high for points in a 79-66 loss to NAIA #24 Oklahoma Baptist University. She registered 20 points, one rebound and two steals, connecting on 8-of-12 shots from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. The Lady Rams are now 1-3 on the season.
