Nabassi, a freshman forward from Lome, Togo, started his collegiate career with a bang. He netted two goals in the Rams’ season-opening 3-2 victory over Manhattan Christian College. The goals came in dramatic fashion, the first tying the game at 2-2 with 1:36 remaining in regulation and the second giving TWU the win with 15 seconds left in overtime. Nabassi also chipped in a goal in a 2-1 loss to Oklahoma City University as TWU started the season at 1-1.

Whiting, a freshman defender from Humble, Texas, helped HTU hold Oklahoma Christian University to one goal and accounted for two goals in a 3-1 victory. The win was HTU’s first of the season, moving its record to 1-1-1.

Additional nominees for offensive player of the week included Frank Toscano of HTU and Ernest Villareal of Northwood University (Texas). Ekene Onuoha of TWU and Ranger Parrish of Northwood were also nominated for defensive player of the week.
