Mendoza, a junior forward from Granada, Spain, capped the first home game in Scorpion soccer history with the game-winning shot on a penalty kick with three minutes remaining. UTB knocked off Huston-Tillotson University by a 3-2 score in the process and defeated College of the Southwest (N.M.), 1-0, later in the week. UTB is currently tops in the conference standings at 3-0 with a mark of 6-2-1 overall. Richeson, a sophomore midfielder from Yorba Linda, Calif., also delivered a game-winning kick for TWU, scoring in the 68th minute for a 2-1 win over conference foe, Texas College. The victory helped the Rams to a 1-1-1 record on the week. They are 5-3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Gamboa, a freshman goalkeeper from Brownsville, Texas, delivered the shutout victory over CSW in his first appearance in goal for the Scorpions this season. He provided four saves in 90 minutes of work. Ranger Parrish of Northwood University (Texas) was an additional nominee for the conference’s offensive award. Toby Rochau of TWU and Chris Sotelo of NU were nominated in the defensive category. -RRAC- |
