RRAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week
October 2, 2007

WACO, Texas –
Frank Toscano of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) had a huge scoring outburst en route to the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 24-30, while Dave Purser of the University of Texas-Brownsville received the RRAC defensive player honor for the same dates.

Toscano, a sophomore forward from Houston, lifted HTU to a pair of conference victories on the week, beginning with three goals and an assist in a 6-0 blanking of Bacone College (Okla.). On Saturday, he knocked in a pair of goals in the Rams’ 4-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas). Toscano was also named player of the week on Sept. 11. HTU is now 2-1 in conference play and 6-4-1 on the season.

Purser, a junior defender from Boston, England, helped keep two conference opponents at bay last week. In a 4-1 win over Northwood University (Texas), he drew a foul that led to a penalty kick goal for the Scorpions, and he contributed to a defense that didn’t allow any shots on goal in a 1-0 victory over Texas Wesleyan University. UTB moves to 5-0 in the RRAC and 8-2-1 on the season.

Marcos Diaz of Northwood and Mark McCormick of UTB were also nominated in the offensive category, while TWU’s Ekene Onuoha, Northwood’s Ranger Parrish and HTU’s Joey Skiff were defensive player nominees.
