RRAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week
September 4, 2007

WACO, Texas –
Lena Candia of University of Texas-Brownsville was selected as the Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 27 – Sept. 4, and Holly Rowland of Texas Wesleyan University was honored as the RRAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates.

Candia, a junior midfielder/forward from Malmo, Sweden, powered UTB to a victory in the school’s first women’s soccer game, a 3-1 win over Texas A&M International University. She booted in all three of the Scorpions’ goals as UTB started off its history and season at 1-0 last week.

Rowland, a senior goalkeeper from Tulsa, Okla., kept the Lady Rams’ competition at bay but lost, 1-0, against Abilene Christian University in her first appearance of the season. In her second outing, she allowed just one goal in 110 minutes as TWU held on to earn a 1-1 tie against East Central University (Okla.). TWU is now 0-2-1 on the season.

Brianna McKernon of TWU was also nominated for offensive player of the week.
