RRAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week
September 25, 2007

WACO, Texas –
Mayra Solis of the University of Texas-Brownsville claimed the Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 17-23, while Brittany O’Brien of Texas Wesleyan University received the women’s defensive award for the same dates.

Solis, a freshman forward from La Joya, Texas, netted six goals last week with two apiece in each of UTB’s three games. She scored the first goal in the Scorpions’ first home game ever, a 4-0 victory over Huston-Tillotson University (Texas), and paced UTB to an 8-0 win over College of the Southwest (N.M.). Solis also accounted for her team’s only goals in a 3-2 loss to Texas Lutheran University. UTB leads the conference at 3-0 with a 7-3 record overall.

O’Brien, a junior goalkeeper from Colleyville, Texas, allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of work last week. She held the University of Science & Arts (Okla.) scoreless through regulation and two overtimes as the Lady Rams earned a 0-0 tie, and she delivered four saves in a 7-1 victory over Texas College. For the week, O’Brien stopped 16 of 17 shots as TWU moved to 1-0 in the RRAC and 4-4-2 on the season.

Candice Reeves of TWU was nominated for the RRAC offensive award, and Christin Resing of UTB was an additional defensive nominee.
