WACO, Texas – Ashley Turner of College of the Southwest (N.M.) was honored as the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the dates of Feb. 4-10, and Ashley Westerman of Northwood University (Texas) received the RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week award for the same dates.

Turner, a senior shortstop from Placentia, Calif., posted a .733 batting average on 11-of-15 hitting as the Lady Mustangs started the season with a 2-4 week. After going 0-for-2 in a pair of losses to Eastern New Mexico University, she was 11-for-13 as CSW split four games against University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Turner accounted for six RBIs in the series and drove in three runs in the last game while going 4-for-4 as CSW won, 9-1. She was 3-for-4 in CSW’s other victory, a 4-2 win over UTPB.

Westerman, a junior pitcher from Godley, Texas, hurled a two-hit shutout against the University of Louisiana-Alexandria. Her five scoreless innings included 11 strikeouts and just two walks as the Lady Knights won, 10-0.

Alex Ramirez of Bacone College (Okla.) was also nominated for this week’s player award.
