Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
February 19, 2008

WACO, Texas –
Angelique Meek of Northwood University (Texas) was selected as the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for Feb. 11-17, and Ashley Tarrant of Texas Wesleyan University received the conference’s Pitcher of the Week honor for the same dates.

Meek, a sophomore centerfielder from Mesquite, Texas, went 7-for-10 at the plate with five RBIs as the Lady Knights posted a 2-2 week. She accounted for three of Northwood’s runs in a 17-3 win over Howard Payne University (Texas), while going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Meek also recorded hits in two of three plate appearances and drove in a pair of runs in a 10-5 loss against the University of Houston-Victoria. Northwood is now 3-3 on the season.

Tarrant, a freshman from Martin’s Mill, Texas, made her first two collegiate pitching appearances and didn’t allow an earned run in a pair of Lady Rams’ losses. She struck out two hitters and walked three in the two games. TWU is now 0-3 overall.

Sasha Long of Bacone College (Okla.) and TWU’s Ariel Raley were also nominated for this week’s player award. Northwood’s Claudia Flores was an additional pitcher nominee.
