Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
March 18, 2008


WACO, Texas –
Holly Bodway of College of the Southwest (N.M.) was named the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for March 10-16, while her teammate, Ruby Garza, and Ashley Oldham of Texas Wesleyan University earned a share of the RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week award for the same dates.

Bodway, a senior catcher/outfielder from Peoria, Ariz., went 8-for-10 at the plate as CSW won all four of its games against conference competition. She was 5-for-6 hitting in a double-header sweep of Texas College and 3-for-4 as the Lady Mustangs took two games against Jarvis Christian College (Texas). She was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in a 14-1 win over TC, and accounted for five RBIs and five runs scored on the week. CSW maintained the top spot in the RRAC at 7-1 with an overall mark of 11-14.

Garza, a sophomore pitcher/infielder from El Paso, Texas, earned a pair of victories last week while allowing just one hit in eight innings of work. She contributed three innings in a combined no-hitter for the Lady Mustangs as they defeated JCC, 21-0, and she hurled a one-hitter for a 9-0 win over Texas College. In all, Garza struck out 16 hitters and walked none in addition to going 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBIs.

Oldham, a sophomore pitcher from Watauga, Texas, threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a 2-0 defeat of Schreiner University (Texas). She struck out eight with no walks to earn her second victory of the year. TWU is 4-2 in conference play and 5-14 on the season.

TWU’s Lauren Garza and Leigh Anne Rainey of Northwood University (Texas) were additional player of the week nominees. Northwood’s Ashley Westerman was nominated for pitcher of the week as well.
