Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
April 15, 2008


WACO, Texas –
Sasha Long of Bacone College (Okla.) was recognized as the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for April 7-13, while Bacone’s Robin Chriestenson and Ashley Westerman of Northwood University (Texas) were named RRAC Softball Co-Pitchers of the Week for the same dates.

Long, a sophomore shortstop from Pryor, Okla., scored 14 runs and accounted for 18 RBIs in a 6-2 week for Bacone. She was 13-of-24 at the plate with five doubles and five home runs for the Lady Warriors. In the opening game with Jarvis Christian College (Texas), she went 4-for-4 with seven RBIs. Long also was 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of homers and five RBIs in a victory over Texas College. Bacone is now 17-5 in conference play and 25-23 on the season.

Chriestenson, a freshman pitcher from Mounds, Okla., went 3-1 in four appearances last week for the Lady Warriors. She allowed only four unearned runs and no earned in 17 innings of work. Chriestenson racked up 22 strikeouts and only three walks with a four-hit shutout over Texas College.

Westerman, a junior pitcher from Godley, Texas, surrendered just one earned run while posting a 4-1 record in five appearances last week. She posted a four-hit shutout against Bacone and struck out 10 hitters in her only defeat, a 2-1 loss to College of the Southwest (N.M.). For the week, she allowed 16 hits in 24 1/3 innings with 24 strikeouts and eight walks. Northwood improved to 27-16 overall and moved to the top of the RRAC standings 18-4.

Northwood’s Angelique Meek and CSW’s Laura Walp were additional player of the week nominees. Cami Riley of Texas Wesleyan University was also nominated for pitcher of the week.
