RRAC Volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the Week

WACO, Texas –
Liz Meng of Texas Wesleyan University captured the Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award for the dates of Sept. 17-23, while her teammates followed suit. TWU’s Evoni Darling and Ashley Mock were recognized with the conference’s weekly awards in the setter and libero categories.

Meng, a senior from Weatherford, Texas, led a balanced Lady Ram offense to a perfect 3-0 week. She racked up 17 kills and 16 digs against Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) and narrowly missed another double-double with eight kills and 13 digs against conference rival Bacone College (Okla.). She finished the week with 3.6 kills per game and 4.1 digs per game. Her hitting percentage for the week was .417. TWU improved to 2-0 in conference play and sits atop the RRAC South Division. The Lady Rams are 12-8 on the season.

Darling, a freshman setter from Grapevine, Texas, compiled an impressive total of 47 assists in the victory over SNU and delivered 104 assists on the week. She averaged 10.4 assists per game including 31 against Bacone. Darling also blasted nine service aces in winning her second consecutive RRAC Setter of the Week award.

Mock, a senior libero from Azle, Texas, averaged 15.7 digs per match in the big week for TWU. She delivered 22 digs against SNU and added 18 more to stop Bacone. In addition, she didn’t commit a single receiving error in 77 total attempts. Mock earned her second consecutive RRAC Libero of the Week award and her third in four weeks.

The University of Texas-Brownsville also had a trio of candidates for this week’s awards including Claudia Alarcon (Player), Daianarah Bracero (Setter) and Viviana Lozano (Libero).
