RRAC Volleyball Player, Setter and Libero of the Week

WACO, Texas –
Claudia Alarcon of the University of Texas-Brownsville captured the Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award for Oct. 15-21, while UTB’s Daianarah Bracero and Texas Wesleyan University’s Ashley Mock were honored with the conferences weekly setter and libero awards for the same dates.  

Alarcon, a junior outside hitter from Lima, Peru, averaged 3.7 kills per game in a 2-1 week for the Scorpions. She pounded home 22 kills in a 3-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas) and added 20 more in a loss to Houston Baptist University (Texas). In all, Alarcon connected on 53 kills in 113 total attempts with 15 errors (.336 hitting percentage). UTB completed a perfect 6-0 record against RRAC South Division competition, and the Scorpions are 23-6 overall. They have won 13 of their last 15 matches.

Bracero, a freshman setter from Sabana Grande, P.R., piled up 125 assists in UTB’s three matches last week including a high of 50 against SAGU. She added 44 assists against HBU and racked up totals of 13 kills, nine service aces and nine blocks.

Mock, a senior libero from Azle, Texas, paved the way to a 3-0 week for the Lady Rams with 32 digs in three conference victories. She had 17 digs against Wiley College (Texas) and committed no receiving errors in 36 attempts. Mock also set a new career high with nine service aces against Jarvis Christian College (Texas). TWU also has a spotless record in conference play at 9-0 with a mark of 24-11 on the season.
