WACO, Texas -- Lateah Lucero of Texas Wesleyan University and Brittany Luna of Northwood University (Texas) earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week award for March 8-14, while TWU's Deanna Freeman and Northwood's Taylor Jones were named RRAC Co-Pitchers of the Week for the same dates.

Lucero, a junior shortstop from Pilot Point, Texas, hit in every game of a 2-2 week for the Lady Rams and compiled a .643 average in that span. She went 3-for-6 as the Lady Rams dropped both ends of a double-header against Central Baptist College (Mo.). On Sunday, she led the way to a double-header sweep over Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) with six hits and three RBIs. Lucero added four runs and two stolen bases as TWU improved to 5-1 in conference play and 11-8 on the season.

Luna, a junior leftfielder from Fort Worth, Texas, drove in four runs as the Lady Knights went 2-2 including a pair of wins over conference front-runner Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas). In the first game against OLLU, she went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs in an 11-8 victory. Luna added two more hits and an RBI in the second game as Northwood won, 6-1. Northwood is now 4-2 in the RRAC and 10-14 overall.

Freeman, a freshman pitcher from Aledo, Texas, went 1-1 with a 2.92 ERA for the Lady Rams. She surrendered just five hits in seven innings against unbeaten CBC (22-0) and suffered a 4-1 loss. Freeman rebounded to earn a victory against Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) while tossing a two-hitter en route to a 10-2 decision.

Jones, a freshman pitcher from Plano, Texas, posted a 1-1 week as well while striking out 13 hitters. She also faced CBC and kept it at bay for six innings before giving the Lady Knights the lead with a solo home run. Jones allowed two runs in the seventh and finished with a 2-1 loss despite allowing just four hits. She earned the 11-8 victory over OLLU with nine strikeouts and accounted for two hits to help her cause.
