TWU's Evans is fourth in the RRAC in ERA at 4.22.
WACO, Texas -- George Rose of Texas College batted his way to the Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week award for the dates of April 12-18, while Joey Evans of Texas Wesleyan University and George Isabell of Northwood University (Texas) earned RRAC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors for the same dates.
Rose, a junior centerfielder from Carrollton, Texas, went 12-for-19 at the plate (.632) in a 2-3 week for the Steers. He hit in all five games including a 3-for-7 start with a home run and three RBIs in a double-header with Prairie View A&M University (Texas). Rose then lifted TC to a series win in a three-game set against Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) with five runs scored, three doubles and a triple. In the middle game, he was 5-for-5 with three RBIs as the Steers won, 13-2. Texas College improved to 6-6 in the RRAC South with an overall record of 15-32.
Evans, a senior pitcher from Tyler, Texas, tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout against Northwood on Friday. He matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts in a 10-0 rain-shortened win. Evans walked only one hitter in seven innings of work as TWU advanced to 8-0 in conference play and 21-19 on the season.
Isabell, a junior righthander from Manhattan, N.Y., earned a victory in a 6-3 win as the Knights struck down the nation's #2 team, Oklahoma City University, on the road. He scattered four hits over six innings while allowing just two runs and four walks. Isabell struck out nine hitters as Northwood moved to 36-10 on the season and 7-3 in the RRAC North.
Gus Henggeler of the University of Texas-Brownsville and TWU's Nick Schrock were also nominated for player of the week, while TC's Kyle Burright was an additional pitcher of the week nominee.
