FORT WORTH, Texas -- It required an extra day of work but Texas Wesleyan nailed down the 2010 RRAC Baseball Championship with a 16-9 win over UT-Brownsville on Wednesday to close out this year's conference tournament. The top-seeded Rams failed in their first attempt on Tuesday when UTB defeated them, 8-4, to force a second title game in the double-elimination format.
TWU put together an eight-run rally in the fourth-inning to build a 9-1 advantage. After four consecutive run-scoring singles and an error by the Scorpions, the Rams' Adam Resendez and Travis Spencer blasted back-to-back homers.
UTB clawed back into the game and made it 9-7 on a two-out, three-run homer by Matt Ginn in the sixth inning. TWU bounced back in the bottom of that frame with four more runs including a two-run double from Morgan Marr and then the Rams tacked on two more in the eight inning before Matt Chutchian closed out the game in relief.
With 65 runs in five games, TWU established a new conference tournament record.
