WACO, Texas -- Louisiana State University-Shreveport officially became the 14th member institution of the Red River Athletic Conference on July 1 and will compete as a full member with postseason opportunities throughout the 2010-11 academic year.

LSUS will participate in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball and baseball, while remaining independent in women's tennis. The Pilots return to the conference for the first time since 2001 when it competed only in RRAC baseball. Adding LSUS expands the RRAC to four states including members in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

"We are very excited about the opportunity of competing in the Red River Athletic Conference. It is an honor for us to not only be considered but be accepted to join this conference. I believe that the prestige of the RRAC will allow us to improve our athletics program to a new level," said Doug Robinson, LSUS Athletic Director.

RRAC presidents voted to accept LSUS into the conference at their annual meeting in December of 2009.

"Many of our members already compete against LSUS year in and year out so there is some familiarity," said RRAC Commissioner Tony Stigliano. "LSUS has developed programs that will compete for conference titles, and Doug has built a highly-respected department that lives up to the NAIA's Champions of Character initiatives."
