Scorpion Athletics has a new image.
A new bolder and more intimidating Scorpion logo was unveiled Wednesday at a pep rally for Scorpion fall sports teams at the Student Union Veranda.
The new logo features a fiercer Scorpion in the orange and blue school colors. is featured on all Scorpion athletic uniforms for the six sports programs for the 2010-11 school year. It is also featured at center court at the Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium.
"Our new logo is refreshing and better for athletics than anything we've ever had," Director of Athletics Todd Lowerysaid. "It's great because it's the first branding mark for athletics. We're proud to display it as our new identity."
The unveiling of the logo ends a one-year production process. The design of the Scorpion is tricky since an actual Scorpion is only a few inches long.
Torch Creative of Dallas designed the new Scorpion logo. The letters UTB and TSC are original and not part of a font collection.
"Working with UTB/TSC on the development of the new, updated Scorpion logo was an absolute honor for Torch Creative," said co-owner Michael Thurman. "We feel that we were able to capture the exciting, dynamic and intimidating nature of a Scorpion to effectively reflect those attributes within UTB/TSC athletics. We're certain that the new Scorpion will remain a powerful symbol of the university for future generations."
UTB/TSC is the only collegiate team in the United States that uses Scorpions as a mascot.
Merchandise bearing the new logos are already on sale at the Academy Sports and Outdoors store in Brownsville. Later this fall, merchandise will be available through the Scorpion Athletics offices located in Garza Gym.
