WACO, Texas -- Jose Bocanegra of Texas College earned recognition as the Red River Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 23-29, while his teammate, Richard Gordon, earned the RRAC Men's Soccer defensive award for the same dates.

Bocanegra, a freshman forward from LaJoya, Texas, scored the winning goal in his first college game. The Steers edged Central Baptist College (Mo.), 2-1, in the first overtime period when Bocanegra connected on a shot from the left side of the field. TXC is 1-0 on the season.

Gordon, a junior goalkeeper from England, was credited with the win over CBC with five saves on six shots during 97 minutes of play.

Cameron Stapleton of Texas Wesleyan University was an additional offensive player of the week nominee, while David Etale of Northwood University (Texas) and Otis Garlo of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) were defensive nominees.
