WACO, Texas -- Teresa Monsivais of Texas College and Jessica Watton of Texas Wesleyan University earned recognition as Red River Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week for Aug. 23-29, while Aleisha Cassie of the University of Texas-Brownsville was honored with the RRAC women's soccer defensive award for the same dates.
Monsivais, a senior midfielder from Longview, Texas, provided the difference with a pair of goals in a 2-1 win for the Lady Steers over Central Baptist College (Mo.). Her second goal came in the final minute of regulation as TXC started the regular season with a victory.
Watton, a sophomore forward from Royal Oak, Mich., also started the season with two goals in the Lady Rams' 4-0 shutout of Howard Payne University (Texas). She scored in the 42nd and 78th minutes of the game to put TWU at 1-0 on the season.
Cassie, a senior defender from Banff, Scotland, was a defensive standout in a 1-0-1 week for the Lady Scorpions. She played all 110 minutes in UTB's season-opener which resulted in a 1-1 tie with ninth-ranked William Carey University (Miss.). Cassie also played all 90 minutes in a 2-0 blanking of the University of Houston-Victoria.
Isadora Freitas of University of Texas-Brownsville, Helen Rios of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) and Brittany Woodward of Bacone College (Okla.) were nominated for offensive player of the week, while TWU's Kayla Mason, HT's Haiydee Moran and Lakeisha Woods of Texas College were defensive nominees.
