WACO, Texas --Leah Russell of the University of Texas-Brownsville won her second consecutive Red River Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week following her performance over the dates of Sept. 14-20, while her teammate, Julia Dell'Aquila, was named the RRAC defensive player of the week.
Russell, a freshman forward from Oakville, Ont., posted her second hat trick in six days with three goals and an assist in a 5-1 win over Texas Southern University. She also scored three goals in an 8-2 victory over Texas A&M International University last week and raised her season totals to seven goals and two assists. The Scorpions are 3-2-1 on the season.
Dell'Aquila, a sophomore defender from Thornhill, Ont., led a stubborn Scorpions defense that allowed one goal each to NCAA opponents, Angelo State University (Texas) and TSU. She prevented several scoring opportunities as a key member of that defense.
Hannah Colazzo of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) and Jaimie Romaguera of Texas Wesleyan University were also nominated for this week's offensive award, and OLLU's Rebekah Valenta was an additional defensive nominee.
