RRAC recognizes track & field weekly award winners

WACO, Texas -- Oraine Palmer of Wiley College (Texas) captured the RRAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor for April 3-9, while Alex Sattley of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) earned his third RRAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week award for the same dates. Wiley's Renae Dennie was recognized as the RRAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and the Wildcats' Taishia Pryce won the RRAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor. The selections compose the sixth group of conference track & field awards for the 2017 outdoor season. 

Palmer broke the facility record at Stephen F. Austin University (Texas) with a 10.17 in the 100-Meter Dash. The sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, posted the best time in the NAIA this season and beat a field of 26 sprinters at the Carl Kight Invitational last weekend. Palmer, who holds the second best time in the 200 this season, was an NAIA All-American in the 100- and 200-Meter Dashes last year. 

Sattley continued to set new school records last week with a new school record in the Triple Jump at the University of the Incarnate Word (Texas) Cardinal Invite. The senior from Portland, Ore., reached a distance of 13.72 meters to finish second in the event. Sattley took first in the High Jump at 1.90 meters and 10th in the Long Jump at 6.24 meters. This is his third RRAC weekly award of the season. 

Dennie was the runner-up in both the 100-Meter Dash and 100-Meter Hurdles at the Carl Kight Invitational women's event. The sophomore from Harbour View, Jamaica, broke her own school record and set a new NAIA standard this season in the hurdles with a time of 14.16. Dennie also sprinted to the fourth-fastest time in the NAIA in the 100 this season at 11.93. 

Pryce posted the best Long Jump result in the NAIA this season at SFA. The Jamaican freshman leaped to a distance of 6.09 meters to finish second in the field of 19 jumpers and set a new Wiley record. Pryce also finished 11th among 28 competitors in the 400-Meter Dash. This is her fourth weekly award of the season.
