LSUS rallies to defeat JCC and win sixth RRAC baseball tournament title

SHREVEPORT, La. -- With its back to the wall, LSU Shreveport rallied from six runs down on Monday to defeat Jarvis Christian, 15-13, and claim the 2017 RRAC Baseball Tournament championship at Pilot Field. The victory was the Pilots third straight in the tournament and sixth in the last seven years.

Trailing 13-7, LSUS carved out two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning then exploded for six runs in the eighth. The Pilots batted around with five singles and a walk, leading to a two-out double from Kevin Rosario to drive in Francisco Rodriguez and put LSUS ahead 14-13. One batter later, Caleb Lasseigne scored from third on a wild pitch for the final run of the game. 

JCC brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but LSUS was able to get three strikeouts to clinch the title. 

For the Bulldogs, it was the closest they've come to winning the RRAC tournament in 19 years as a member of the RRAC. Early in the game, JCC rocked LSUS with four runs in the third inning on three RBI singles and an error. They followed with eight runs in the fourth inning with Carlos Andrade delivering the biggest blow on a three-run double. Koby Greene also drove in two in the inning. 

LSUS finished with 17 hits to JCC's 15. The Bulldogs left 11 on base compared to 10 by LSUS. 

Rosario led the Pilots with three RBIs while going 3-for-6 at the plate with two doubles. Lasseigne, Rodriguez, and Brendan Meade drove in two runs each.

Andrade finished with two doubles and three RBIs for the Bulldogs. Greene, CJ Tyler and Santos Abreu accounted for two RBIs each.
