Celts Cancel Trip to San Antonio; Focus on Aiding Houston Community
Women's Soccer - Fri, Sep. 8, 2017

In response to the devastation to the Houston community from Hurricane Harvey, the University of St. Thomas Women's Soccer team canceled its game against Oklahoma City University.

The Celts and the Stars had been scheduled to meet on Sunday, Sept. 3 in San Antonio, TX. The teams have no plans at the moment to make up the game at a later date.

Several players and their families were directly impacted by the storm, and continue to recover after suffering flood damage to their homes.

"Many of our women's soccer family were affected by this storm, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them and the entire Houston community," said Celts head coach Nikola Barjaktarevic. "Our goal as a team the next few days is to unite in support of victims, and do whatever is possible to help the community before resuming our season."

Many players will be volunteering throughout Labor Day weekend to assist family, friends, and the local community.

"Right now, we are focusing on helping our family, friends, and fellow citizens who would not think twice before helping us," said team captain Mariana Sanches (SR/Salvador, Brazil).

The team resumed its normal schedule when classes resumed for the University of St. Thomas on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The Celts will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 15 away against Prairie View A&M University.
