RRAC weekly volleyball awards announced for Sept. 4
WACO, Texas – Raven Swain of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) was named RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Aug. 28-Sept. 3. Valencia Barrett of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) received the RRAC Setter of the Week award, and HT's Maranda Washington was selected as the RRAC Defender of the Week for the same dates. This is the second set of conference awards for the 2017 volleyball season.
Swain reached double-digits in kills in a pair of losses for the Saints last week. The senior outside hitter powered home 10 kills in a 3-1 loss to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas), and she contributed 12 kills as OLLU dropped a match against Texas Wesleyan University. Swain posted a hitting percentage of .241 with only eight errors in 58 attacks. The native of Pflugerville, Texas, also had 18 digs for the week. The Saints are now 1-3 on the season.
Barrett is recognized for the second consecutive week with 61 assists as the Rams split a pair of matches. The freshman from LaMarque, Texas, accounted for 46 assists and four service aces in a 3-2 victory over SAGU. She also had 15 assists in a loss to TWU. For the week, Barrett collected 27 digs and four kills. HT is now 5-1 overall.
Washington posted 40 digs on the week for the Rams. The junior libero from Edinburg, Texas, reached a high of 30 digs in the win over SAGU and committed only two receiving errors in 31 total attempts.
