HT and OLLU standouts recognized with RRAC weekly volleyball awards

WACO, Texas – Breanna Taylor of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) earned recognition as the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Sept. 25-Oct. 1. HT's Valencia Barrett was named the RRAC Setter of the Week and Raven Swain of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) received the RRAC Defender of the Week award for the same dates. This is the sixth set of conference awards for the 2017 volleyball season.

Taylor picked up her third weekly award of the season with strong performances in key conference battles. The senior outside hitter finished the week with 50 kills and a .279 hitting percentage as the Rams won three matches. Taylor pounded out 17 kills in a 3-1 win over University of St. Thomas (Texas) and 20 to sink Wiley, 3-1. The Houston native committed only 19 errors in 111 total attacks for the week. Taylor now leads the RRAC in hitting percentage (.239), kills (205) and kills per set (3.8). HT is tied for first in the RRAC at 6-0 with a 12-4 record overall. 

Barrett averaged 9.3 assists per set to win her third award of the season. The freshman from LaMarque, Texas, posted a high of 38 assists in a non-conference victory over Schreiner University (Texas). Barrett also had 37 assists against UST, and she contributed 36 digs for the week. She is the RRAC leader in assists (483) and assists per set (8.3) this season. 

Swain, who has been selected Attacker of the Week twice this year, registered 62 digs in a 3-0 week for the Saints. The versatile senior outside hitter accounted for 27 digs in a 3-2 win over UST and 25 in a win over Southwestern University (Texas). Swain committed only three errors in 71 receiving attempts, and she also delivered 42 kills. She is sixth in the conference with 3.4 digs per set, and she is second in kills with 174. OLLU also remains unbeaten at 6-0 in the conference with a mark of 10-5 on the season
