 WACO, Texas -- Javier Perez of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) and Josh Reyes of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 22-28, while Omar Apodaca of the University of Texas-Brownsville was this week's RRAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Katy Houchin of Texas Wesleyan University and UTB's Stephanie Reid were selected as the RRAC Women's Soccer Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
  Perez, a junior midfielder from Hobbs, N.M., was moved to forward due to injuries and lifted the Mustangs with two goals and two assists in a 4-3 win over Adams State College (Colo.). On one goal, he stole the ball from ASC, avoided four defenders and booted the shot into the net. Perez also had several shots on goal in a 2-0 loss to Eastern New Mexico University. USW moves to 5-4 on the season.

Reyes, a sophomore forward from San Antonio, notched two goals including the game-winning shot in a 3-2 victory over Schreiner University (Texas). The Rams improved to 3-3-1 overall.

Apodaca, a junior defender from Mexico City, provided defensive pressure and assisted on the game-tying goal in a 2-1 win over St. Thomas University (Texas). Ranked #22 in the NAIA, the Scorpions are now 6-0-1.

Houchin, a sophomore goalkeeper from Temple, Texas, delivered seven saves on eight shots on goal in a 1-0 loss to John Brown University (Texas). In the process, she lowered her goals against average to 1.42 for the season as the Lady Rams slipped to 6-3.

Reid, a junior goalkeeper from Mississauga, Ont., stopped nine of 10 shots to extend the Scorphions' match with Abilene Christian University (Texas) six minutes into overtime, when ACU broke through for the game's only goal. UTB is now 3-3-1.

Additional nominees for the men's defensive award included HT's Abraham Bernal and TWU's Joakim Soderbaum.
