CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- There is no longer any doubt which team is the No. 1 in the NAIA.
No. 1 UTB/TSC made a big statement in the NAIA volleyball world as the Scorpions took down No. 2 Lee University (Tenn.), 3-0, in a showdown of the top two NAIA volleyball teams before 1,000 screaming fans at the Paul Dana Walker Arena on Lee's campus.
The much-hyped match featuring the top two teams was not as close as many expected. Both teams reached the NAIA National Tournament semifinals in 2010. Lee lost only one match in 2010 in the semifinals to Columbia College, while UTB/TSC lost only twice, once to Lee and the second time to eventual national champion Fresno Pacific in the semifinals.
"We played really well in both matches," Scorpion head coach Todd Lowery said. "We did a good job on ball control, and improved on the things we wanted to work on. We're getting better every game and we need to keep that up. This weekend was an improvement over last weekend."
