Guera was named RRAC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
WACO, Texas -- Ana Guera of the University of Texas-Brownsville collected a second consecutive Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award and was also named Hitter of the Week for matches played on Sept. 19-25. Guera's teammates, Amber Brooks and Paula Barros, earned the conference's Setter and Libero of the Week honors for the same dates.
Guera, a sophomore middle blocker from Sao Paulo, Brazil, posted a hitting percentage of .512 as the Scorpions won their first two conference matches of the season. Guera hammered 14 kills in a 3-1 win over Wiley College (Texas) and tacked on 10 more in a 3-0 sweep of Texas College. Her 24 kills came on 41 total attempts with just two errors. UTB, ranked #1 in the NAIA, ran its record to 16-0 on the season.
Brooks, a senior setter from Alvin, Texas, had matching assist totals of 36 in the victories over Wiley and TXC. She also contributed in other phases with 19 digs and seven kills.
Barros, a junior right side from Sao Paulo, scooped 27 digs against Wiley and 16 against TXC with no receiving errors in 36 total attempts. She also delivered five service aces for the Scorpions.
Wiley's Eileen Burbano, Katherine Rosenbusch of Texas Wesleyan University, Wiley's Magda Santos and Jade Tigilau of Bacone College (Okla.) were also nominated for player/hitter of the week. Burbano and TWU's Stephanie Dominguez were setter nominees, while Wiley's Erica Brown and TWU's Elena Vannaman were libero nominees.
