On January 9 the Wiley College Department of Athletics hosted a special "Title IX Game" in honor of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. This amendment is a United States law, enacted on June 23, 1972; however, in 2002 it was renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act in honor of its principal author Congresswoman Mink.

"I am very pleased with the direction the program is going," said Willie Owens. "I will continue to donation my time, money and efforts as needed." Owens is responsible for starting the women's program at the College and has been working at Wiley since 1973; ironically the year after Title IX was enacted.

The Lady Wildcats were honored by playing the main event game of the night at 7:30 p.m. and the Wildcats hosted the first game of the double header at 5:30 p.m. Wiley split games with the University of St. Thomas as the Lady Wildcats blew out the Lady Celts 104-77. The Wildcats fell to the Celts 79-66.

Junior Alieshia Carruthers was dominant on all ends of the floor for the Lady Wildcats and finished with 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Returning Sophomore Kyniddia Purdy was superb as she ended the game with 14 points, ten boards and four assists. Sophomore Shakendra Moore, who played her first game as a Lady Wildcat, finished with a double-double; 15 points, 12 rebounds and two assists.

"We want to uplift women's athletics just as much as men's athletics," said Janet Eaton, current Director of Athletics for Wiley. Eaton is the first female A.D. in the history of the school.

"We have a lot of female coaches at Wiley such as Shonte Epperson, Courtney Pruitt, Nancy Sikobe, and Madeleine Harris, and as an A.D. I am very proud to be where I am today," said Eaton. "I would like to leave behind a legacy much like Mrs. Owens."

In the men's game, Wiley trailed by only seven at half, but couldn't jump the hurdle in the second half as they were outscored by six points. Despite the loss, junior Kenny LaGuerre played outstanding for the Wildcats as he finished with 13 points, 14 rebounds and one assist. LaGuerre was 5-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. Senior Graylin Smith finished with nine points, 14 boards and two assists.
