Horton, a freshman shortstop from North Richland Hills, Texas, drove in five runs and scored twice in a 2-1 week for the Rams. After going hitless in the opener of a three-game series with Northwood, he hit a pair of doubles and drove in four runs as TWU won the second game, 8-5. He then went 3-for-3 in the finale with two runs scored and another RBI in a 14-2 victory. For the week, he was 5-for-12 hitting with two walks. TWU held on to third place in the RRAC with a record of 16-7 and an overall mark of 30-13.
Gomez, a junior catcher from Alice, Texas, tossed a three-hitter to blank TWU, 3-0, in the opening game of that series. He struck out four and walked two in eight innings of work. Northwood is currently fourth in the conference with a mark of 10-7-1 and a record of 20-14-1 on the season.
Mortensen, a senior pitcher from Abbotsford, B.C., also threw a three-hit shutout to stop the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas), 8-0. He mowed down 11 hitters and walked two in seven innings as the NAIA's top-ranked team improved to 33-3 on the season and 17-3 in conference play.
Kade Billeaudeaux of LSUS and Peter Maldonaldo of the University of Texas-Brownsville were additional player of the week nominees. Zach Armstrong of UTB, Nolan Barbee of TWU, Evander Ledward of Texas College and Cody McBride of Bacone College (Okla.) were also nominated for pitcher of the week.
