WACO, Texas -- Sirena Medrano of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) used a balanced effort to claim the first Red River Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for 2010.
Medrano, a senior guard from Snyder, Texas, poured in 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the Lady Mustangs toppled Sul Ross State University (Texas), 81-63. She connected on 4-of-9 shots from the field and 11-of-16 from the free throw line as USW moved to 3-7 on the season.
Ashley Bringol of Texas Wesleyan University and Ueronica Cleveland of Wiley College (Texas) were additional nominees this week.
