WACO, Texas -- Demetrius Evans of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) nailed down Red River Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors after his play over the dates of Jan. 11-17.
Evans, a sophomore forward from Chicago, averaged 25.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as the Mustangs won a pair of conference games last week. He registered a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards in a narrow 69-67 win over Texas College then poured in 31 points with eight rebounds to overwhelm Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas), 87-80. Overall, Evans was 21-of-38 on field goal attmepts (55.3%) and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Southwest improved to 3-1 in conference play and 5-6 on the season.
Additional nominees included Jacobie Bias of TC, Jon Black of SAGU, Catrell Currie of Langston University (Okla.), Phillip Gavin of Jarvis Christian College (Texas), Uros Pavlovic of Wiley College (Texas) and Jamel White of Texas Wesleyan University.
