WACO, Texas -- Sirena Medrano of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) won her second Red River Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season with her play over the dates of Jan. 11-17.
Medrano, a senior guard from Snyder, Texas, averaged a double-double in a 1-1 week for the Lady Mustangs. Scoring 26 points and snaring 12 rebounds, she guided USW to its first conference victory of the season with an 84-81 win over Texas College. Medrano followed on Saturday with 17 points and nine boards as the Lady Mustangs fell to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas), 58-50. She was 12-of-26 from the field with five three-pointers as USW slipped to 1-3 in RRAC play and 4-10 on the season.
Others receiving nominations this week included Ueronica Cleveland of Wiley College (Texas), Alisha Crump of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas), Ashley Davis of Texas Wesleyan University, Niocha Hishaw of Jarvis Christian College (Texas), Sanetra Jackson of Langston University (Okla.) and Nicole Linen of SAGU.
