University of the Southwest (N.M.) and Southwestern
Assemblies of God University (Texas) were selected as
the overall winners of the 2008-09 Red River Athletic Conference Sportsmanship
Award as the programs with the coaches, players and
administration that exhibited the best demeanor and
conduct during the academic year.
Special recognition was given to the University of the
Southwest (N.M.) for its men's programs and Bacone
College (Okla.) for its women's programs. Awards were
determined in voting by all RRAC athletic directors with
USW and SAGU tying for the overall award.
The RRAC Sportsmanship Award is given annually to the RRAC
member institution that has displayed the highest level
of sportsmanship including teamwork, fair play, respect
for the game and conduct in competition. The school's
sportsmanship must be apparent across multiple sports,
on and off the field and in interaction with fellow
member schools.
