WACO, Texas -- Chris
Veenhuis of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) was
selected as the Red River Athletic Conference Men's
Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 6,
while three players, Abass Ayembillah of the University
of Texas-Brownsville, Callum Congreve of University of
the Southwest (N.M.) and Theo Nabassi of Texas Wesleyan
University, shared the RRAC Men's Soccer Offensive
Player of the Week award for the same dates.
Veenhuis, a freshman goalkeeper from Kyle, Texas, shut
out Concordia University (Texas), 3-0, in his only start
of the week. He faced 10 shots and delivered seven saves
en route to the victory. The Rams improved to
1-1-1.
Ayembillah, a freshman forward from Accra, Ghana, was
held scoreless in a victory over University of St.
Thomas (Texas), but he saved his best for 16th-ranked
Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) on Saturday.
Ayembillah posted a hat trick as the Scorpions cruised
to a 5-1 win. The Scorpions are 3-0 on the young season.
Congreve, a freshman midfielder from Sheffield, England,
delivered a hat trick of his own, providing the
difference for the Mustangs in a 3-2 victory over
McMurry University (Texas). USW is now 2-1.
Nabassi, a junior forward from Lome, Togo, pushed TWU to
its best start in program history at 4-0. On Saturday,
he sparked the Rams with their first goal in a 2-1 win
over Oklahoma Baptist University. He added two more
goals on Sunday including the clincher in a 3-1 victory
over Schreiner University (Texas).
Additional offensive nominees included Rafael Alves of
Bacone College (Okla.) and HTU's Pedro Zamarippa. TWU's
Toby Rochau was also nominated for this week's defensive
award.
