WACO, Texas -- Sirena Medrano of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) claimed the Red River Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for the fourth time this season, while Alburey Doss of Langston University (Okla.) was selected for the men's basketball honor over the dates of Feb. 23-March 1.

Medrano, a junior guard/forward from Snyder, Texas, averaged 23.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game as the Lady Mustangs went 1-1 last week. She scored 23 points with three steals in a 49-47 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas) before pouring in 24 points with 15 boards in a 73-60 loss to Paul Quinn College (Texas). En route to a pair of double-doubles, she made 15-of-30 shots from the field and 15-of-20 from the free throw line. USW stands at 8-9 in sixth place in the RRAC standings with one regular season game to play. The Lady Mustangs are 13-15 on the season.

Doss, a sophomore forward from St. Louis, Mo., racked up 51 points and 43 rebounds as the Lions won two of three games. He opened with 19 points and 17 boards in a 76-73 loss to Texas College before leading his team to victory, 96-65, with 12 points and four steals in a rescheduled game on Wednesday. On Saturday, he matched up his totals with 20 points and 20 rebounds in a 102-97 victory over Huston-Tillotson University (Texas). For the week, Doss made 22-of-34 field goal attempts (64.7%). Langston holds the third spot in the conference at 11-6 with an overall record of 14-12.

Additional women's nominees included LaJuana Banks of Jarvis Christian College (Texas), Kim Gatlin of Texas Wesleyan University, Langston's Ashlea Gray and Whitney Goard of Wiley College (Texas). Wiley's Darnell Adams, TWU's Chris Berry, SAGU's Jeremy Carey, HT's Darrall Glover and JCC's Deveon Jenkins were nominated for the men's award.
