Cassandra
Ruiz of the University of the Southwest (N.M.) earned
recognition as the Red River Athletic Conference Women's
Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 31-Sept. 6,
while Katy Houchin of Texas Wesleyan University was
recognized as the RRAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player
of the Week.
Ruiz, a sophomore forward from Hobbs, N.M., posted seven
points as the Lady Mustangs defeated McMurry University,
8-0. She contributed two goals and three assists as USW
moved to 1-1 on the season.
Houchin, a sophomore goalkeeper from Temple, Texas,
registered two consecutive shutouts within 24 hours for
the 4-0 Lady Rams. She blanked Schreiner University
(Texas), 1-0, then held Oklahoma Baptist University
scoreless with five saves for another 1-0 victory.
Chelsea Maidment of the University of Texas-Brownsville
and TWU's Jaimie Romaguera were also nominated for
offensive player of the week.
