[Women's Golf] UTB's Muro Competing at NAIA Women's Golf National Tournament

GREENVILLE, Tenn. -- Individual qualifier Alainey Muro of the University of Texas-Brownsville is currently tied for 72nd place after the second round of the 2012 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at Link Hills Country Club. Muro shot an 11-over par 84 in the second round and will compete in the third round on Wednesday.

SAN ANTONIO (May 16, 2012) -- The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's and women's soccer teams received recognition on May 15 for their work as mentors in the Northside Independent School District (NISD), the largest school district in San Antonio and the fourth largest in Texas. Northside held its 2012 Partner-of-the-Year Awards Reception at the Paul Taylor Field House, and Soccer Coach Shane Hurley accepted the award on behalf of his team members. He was congratulated by Dr. John M. Folks, NISD Superintendent.

"I think it is tremendous that out of more than 400 partners with NISD, OLLU's soccer program was one of 18 partners receiving recognition," said Hurley. "I am very proud of our fantastic young men and women."

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially released the qualifiers for the 2012 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships. The 61st annual event will take place at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore., on May 22-25.

As the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Champions, Texas Wesleyan University was an automatic qualifer, and Our lady of the Lake University (Texas) received an at-large bid to the tournament.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Top-ranked LSU Shreveport will be making its second consecutive trip to the main draw of the NAIA Baseball World Series after a 5-1 win over Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Saturday to win its Opening Round bracket. Pilot pitcher Logan Norris tossed a complete game gem and was the second Pilot starting pitcher to do so in the tournament.

[Softball] TWU Ready for NAIA Softball Championship on May 17-23

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- RRAC champion Texas Wesleyan will represent the conference in the 2012 NAIA Softball Championship at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex on May 17-23. Eight pools of four teams each will play three games from May 17-19. The winner of each pool will advance to an eight-team double-elimination bracket that will play out May 21-23 and will culminate in the crowning of the 2012 National Champion.

The Lady Rams will see their first action on Thursday, May 17, when they take on Cal State San Marcos at 2:30 pm They will then face Southern Nazarene University (Okla.) at 3 pm on Friday, and Mobile at 12:30 pm on Saturday.

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas -- Regular season champion Texas Wesleyan added the RRAC Softball Tournament title with no losses and a 5-2 win over Our Lady of the Lake. TWU Pitcher Alexis Beltran earned the victory by scattering six hits over seven innings and allowing just one earned run. The Lady Rams' Courtney Orebaugh was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Regular season champion LSU Shreveport took a 3-1 lead in the second inning and held on for a 5-2 win over Bacone on Tuesday in the championship game of the 2012 RRAC Baseball Tournament at Pilot Field. The top-ranked Pilots had 13 hits, including triples from Kade Billeaudeaux and David Dorton, while starting pitcher Drew Middleton earned the victory.

WACO, Texas -- The nation's top-ranked team and RRAC regular season champion LSU Shreveport received strong representation on the 2012 RRAC All-Conference Baseball Team, which was released on Friday. The Pilots' Kyle Pearson was named the conference's Player of the Year and Jared Mortensen was selected as Pitcher of the Year, joining five other LSUS players on the first team. The RRAC Baseball Championship begins on Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- UT-Brownsville freshman Alainey Muro shattered the school record for best two-round total with a 145 to win medalist honors at the NAIA Unaffiliated #1 Tournament at the Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City Tuesday.

Because the Red River Athletic Conference does not have at least six women's golf teams, teams from conferences like the RRAC must play together to form a group to qualify for the national tournament.
