GARDEN CITY, Kan. -- UT-Brownsville's Deanna Portillo finished second at the NAIA Women's Golf Qualifying Event which wrapped up on Tuesday at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. Portillo fell three shots short of Kamie Rush of Kansas Wesleyan University after holding a first round lead. UTB placed third as a team, 10 strokes away from a berth in the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship. The Ocelots posted a two-round total of 708, while St. Thomas finished in fifth at 718. The qualifier was a combined event with the Kansas Collegeiate Athletic Conference.
Other top RRAC finishers includedUTB's Veronika Vasquez (11th), UST's Aimee Mires (12th), Leanna Saenz (15th), and Jordan Roller (T16th). Vasquez was named RRAC Player of the Year, while Portillo earned Freshman of the Year. UTB's Daniel Hayden was named Coach of the Year. Portillo, Vasquez, Mires, Saenz and Roller were named to the RRAC All-Conference Team.
