WACO, Texas -- Fourth-seeded LSU Shreveport started postseason play with a 107-64 victory over in-state rival LSU Alexandria in the first round of the RRAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Playing on their home court, the Lady Pilots were led by Kourtney Pennywell's 37 points in addition to 26 from senior Ariel Harrell. LSUS made 58.8% of their shots as a team, hitting 40-of-68 field goal attempts in the game. The Lady Pilots advanced to the semifinals which will be held on a neutral site at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
LSUS' opponent won't be determined until after the other first round match-up, which will be staged on Wednesday as Langston hosts the University of St. Thomas (Texas). The teams will be re-seeded at that point.
In the men's draw, the home teams were triumphant again. Third-seeded Wiley College (Texas) clipped LSUS, 89-86 to advance. Langston rallied against University of the Southwest (N.M.) to send their first round game to overtime at 71-71 before winning 82-79. Langston will face top-seeded LSU Alexandria in the first men's semifinal on Friday in Longview, and Wiley will challenge OLLU in the second semifinal.
