SHREVEPORT, La. -- LSU Shreveport closed out its fourth RRAC Baseball Tournament title in the last five years with a 5-3 victory over LSU Alexandria in the championship game on Sunday. LSUA edged the Pilots for the regular season title, but LSUS got a measure of revenge on its home diamond, Pilots Field. Ranked 13th nationally, LSUS climbed to 43-12 on the season, while LSUA dipped to 38-14. Both will await NAIA Baseball World Series assignments this week.
LSUS took an early 1-0 lead on a single from Oliver Christensen, but the Generals responded with two-run homer from Keagan Krazter in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of that frame, the lead changed for good as the Pilots' James Sloan doubled and scored on a triple by Blair Landry. Landry scored moments later on a double from Reed Lavallee for a 3-2 edge. Grady Cladwell led off the sixth inning with a homer for LSUS, but the Generals answered again with a run in the top of the seventh when Matt Telesco drove in Bond Babin with a single. Lavallee provided a little more cushion with a sacrifice fly that scored Jamal Martin in the eighth. LSUA was able to get the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but came up short.
Christensen and Sloan went 3-for-3 in the game, while Lavallee drove in two runs for the Pilots. Dustin Doucette earned the victory with four strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings of work. LSUA was led by Telesco and Babin with two hits each.
