HOUSTON, Texas -- Selecting the second men's basketball coach in St. Thomas history was not difficult, as the Celts turned to alum and former student-athlete Anthony Medinaf to fill the position. During his three-year career at UST, Medina was a two-time RRAC All-Conference player who shot better than 40% from three-point range for his career. He graduated from UST as the all-time leader in points, rebounds, minutes played, games played, and three-pointers made. Medina, originally from El Paso, Texas, played his prep basketball at The Woodlands High School before joining the UST team in their inaugural year. He graduated in 2012 from UST with a B.A. in English.

"The University of St. Thomas community welcomes back Anthony Medina who was one of our most outstanding student-athletes," UST President Dr. Robert Ivany said. "We are gratified to see one of our graduates return to his alma mater to dedicate his energy and knowledge for the success of the  basketball team and for the pride of our campus community. "
