SHAWNEE, Okla. -- After fighting through three elimination games, LSU Shreveport finally succumbed to host Oklahoma Baptist University with a 17-12 loss in the title game of the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round on Friday. The 13th-ranked Pilots finished the season with a 46-14 record.
LSUS built a lopsided 11-2 lead thanks to a nine-run sixth inning and were on their way to forcing an "if necessary" game when OBU got to the Pilots' bullpen and outscored LSUS, 15-1, the rest of the way. In the Pilots' big inning, Alex Montero launched a solo homer over left field, and Reed Lavallee connected on a three-run shot, his second in two days. Kym Barthel contributed a two-run triple as well.
