Texas – Following the University of Texas-Brownsville’s first Red River Athletic
Conference volleyball championship, the Scorpions’ Talita Milasauskas
and Daianarah Bracero were honored as the conference’s player and setter
of the week for Nov. 5-11.
Milasauskas, a
freshman middle blocker from Sao Paulo, Brazil, averaged 4.8 kills per
game as UTB swept all three of its opponents in the RRAC tournament. She
capped the run with 15 kills on 35 total attempts with two errors in the
title game as the Scorpions defeated host Texas Wesleyan University.
Milasauskas had 38 kills and 26 digs in the tournament with a kill
percentage of .423. In addition to winning her sixth RRAC Player of the
Week award, she also claimed three RRAC postseason awards as the Front
Row Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year as
well as a spot on the RRAC All-Conference Team.
Bracero, a junior
setter from Sabana Grande, P.R., compiled 98 assists in the tournament
en route to her fifth RRAC Setter of the Week award. She rested during
one game in UTB’s tournament opener then had 43 assists in the
Scorpions’ semifinal victory over College of the Southwest (N.M.) and 38
in the championship match. Bracero was named to the RRAC All-Conference
Team in addition to being recognized as the RRAC Newcomer of the Year.
UTB earned the top
seed in the NAIA Region VI Volleyball Championship, which will be played
on Nov. 16-17. The Scorpions are 30-7 on the season.
