USW's Koontz, OLLU's Gil grab first RRAC men's hoops weekly awards of the season

WACO, Texas – Jacob Koontz of University of the Southwest (N.M.) was selected as the RRAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 28-Nov. 3, while Rob Gil of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) was named RRAC Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the first weekly award of the 2024-25 men's basketball season, and this marks the introduction of a new RRAC award for defensive player of the week.

Koontz poured in 23 points as the Mustangs won their season opener, 77-63, at the University of Science & Arts (Okla.). The senior forward from Missouri City, Texas, connected on 8-of-9 shots from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Koontz also contributed six rebounds and two steals.

Gil collected four steals in the Saints' 82-70 victory over Southern University-New Orleans (La.). The senior guard from San Antonio also grabbed four defensive rebounds as OLLU moved to 2-0 on the season.
