OLLU's Powell, NAU's Thomas earn RRAC basketball player of the week recognition
WACO, Texas – Breion Powell of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) earned the RRAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week award for Nov. 4-10, while Damione Thomas of North American University (Texas) garnered the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the second set of weekly awards for the 2024-25 men's basketball season.
Powell was the catalyst behind OLLU victories over No. 17 Ave Maria University (Fla.) and Southeastern University (Fla.) at the SEU Classic. The senior wingman from Austin, Texas, poured in a career-high 32 points as the Saints took down AMU, 103-93. Powell also helped OLLU rally from 12 points down with 20 points and seven rebounds to win in overtime, 111-103. The Saints are off to a 4-0 start on the season entering conference play.
Thomas guided the Stallions to an 87-75 victory over Southern University-New Orleans (La.). The senior forward from Las Cruces, N.M., accounted for four steals and four blocked shots. Thomas also collected five defensive rebounds while scoring 16 points. NAU is now 3-1 on the season.
