OLLU's Plata, Xavier's Campbell receive RRAC women's hoops weekly awards

WACO, Texas – Julia Plata of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) was recognized as the RRAC Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 18-24, while Joy Campbell of Xavier University (La.) collected the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the fourth set of weekly awards for the 2024-25 women's basketball season.

Plata excelled by making 11-of-23 three-pointers last week to lead the Saints to victories over two RRAC opponents. The sophomore guard from San Antonio produced 24 points in a 66-63 victory over Texas A&M University-Texarkana, and she followed up with 23 as OLLU dropped Jarvis Christian University (Texas), 100-70. Plata made 16-of-33 shots from the field for the week. She is currently fifth in the conference in scoring with 17.1 points per game. The Saints evened their conference mark at 2-2 and moved to 4-3 overall.

Campbell racked up nine steals as Xavier won three games last week. The graduate guard from Fontana, Calif., led a defensive effort that limited Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) to 22.4% field goal shooting and snapped the Rams' four-game win streak. Campbell also averaged 16.7 points and 8.3 assists per game. She shot 55.6% from the field as Xavier knocked off NAIA No. 25 Loyola University (La.). The Gold Nuggets are undefeated at 4-0 in the RRAC and 7-0 on the season.
