Turner, Washington win RRAC men's basketball player of the week honors

WACO, Texas – Seviuhn Turner of Xavier University (La.) earned the RRAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week award for Dec. 9-15, while Tyler Washington of LSU Shreveport (La.) captured the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the seventh set of weekly awards for the 2024-25 men's basketball season.

Turner became the third Gold Rush player in the 13-year history of Xavier's Convocation Center to score 30 points in a game. The junior guard/forward from Baton Rouge, La., also became the first Xavier player since 2015 to make 15 free throws in a game en route to a 72-54 victory over Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Turner made 15-of-17 from the free throw line and 6-of-11 from the field including three from three-point range for exactly 30 points. He also had four rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Turner is sixth in the RRAC in three-point field goal percentage (44.1%) and 11^th in scoring (14.2 points per game). The Gold Rush has won seven straight and stands at 6-1 in conference play and 7-2 on the season.

Washington collected five steals and three blocked shots in a 2-0 week for the Pilots. The senior forward from Delhi, La., averaged 10.0 rebounds per game including 8.0 per game on the defensive end. Washington also poured in 32 points in a 101-71 victory over North American University (Texas). Washington has 18 steals and 10 blocks this season. LSUS climbed to 5-4 in the RRAC and 8-5 overall.
