USW's Evans, PQC's Harrison start new year as RRAC men's hoops players of the week

WACO, Texas – James Evans of University of the Southwest (N.M.) received the RRAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week award for Dec. 30-Jan. 5, while John Harrison of Paul Quinn College (Texas) was selected as the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the ninth set of weekly awards for the 2024-25 men's basketball season.

Evans averaged 20.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Mustangs. The senior forward from Miami recorded 17 points in USW's upset of 20^th-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas), and he tacked on 24 in a victory over Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Evans was efficient, sinking 14-of-22 shots from the field and 12-of-14 from the free throw line. He is sixth in the RRAC shooting 59.6% from the field. The Mustangs evened their conference mark at 6-6 and reached an overall record of 9-6.  

Harrison racked up eight steals and 12 defensive rebounds as the Tigers split a pair of conference games last week. The sophomore forward from Forney, Texas, collected three steals in a win over TAMUSA and gathered five in a loss to OLLU. PQC advanced to 3-9 in RRAC play and 3-12 on the season.
