Gomm, Fontenot capture RRAC baseball weekly honors for March 17-23

WACO, Texas – Austin Gomm of LSU Shreveport (La.) was recognized as the RRAC Baseball Player of the Week for March 17-23, while Cy Fontenot of Louisiana Christian University was named the RRAC Pitcher of the Week for the same dates. This is the ninth set of weekly winners for the 2025 RRAC baseball season.

Gomm delivered at the plate in a 4-0 week for the Pilots. The senior infielder from Ontario, Canada, went 8-for-14 hitting with a double, a pair of home runs and nine RBIs. Gomm drove in three runs with two triples in a 10-1 non-conference victory over Texas Wesleyan University and tacked on at least on RBI in each game of a series sweep over LSU Alexandria (La.). He homered in the first two games of the series including three RBIs in the series opener, a 14-1 victory over the Generals. Gomm is second in the RRAC in batting average (.477) and fourth in home runs (7). LSUS will hold on to its No. 1 ranking nationally with a 29-0 record and 15-0 conference mark.

Fontenot won a pitcher's duel in a 1-0 Wildcat victory over 10^th-ranked University of Houston-Victoria (Texas). The senior right-hander from Alexandria, La., stymied the Jaguars while allowing three hits and no walks in the complete game, seven-inning effort. Fontenot faced one batter over the minimum while inducing 14 groundouts and striking out three hitters. He also contributed a scoreless inning of work in an 11-1 defeat of Dillard University (La.). Fontenot has a 3.78 ERA on the season. LCU moved up to 9-6 in the RRAC and 19-14 overall.
